Bergen County Holds Meeting for Comprehensive Farmland Preservation Plan

Bergen County Executive Dennis McNerney and the County’s Department of Planning and Economic Development invite residents to a second meeting regarding the preparation of a new Comprehensive Farmland Preservation Plan on Wednesday, November 12 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Mahwah Township Hall located at 475 Corporate Drive in Mahwah.
“This new Farmland Preservation Plan will help us protect the remaining farmland in Bergen County,” said McNerney. “30 percent of the farms in the county have been preserved with some 900 acres of land remaining in agricultural production.”

Agriculture is a strong and thriving industry in the county producing six to nine million in annual sales with specialty services, locally grown products, and seasonal activities.

“Preserving farms will help us make sure that this economic industry remain a strong and important aspect of Bergen’s economy and quality of life,” said Bergen County Freeholder Chairman Tomas J. Padilla.

For information about the meeting or the Farmland Preservation Plan contact Robert Abbatomarco in the Bergen County Department of Planning and Economic Development at 201-336-6442.
