Mayor & Council Meeting 12-08-08

Mayor Council Meeting 12-08-08 Due to conflicting schedules, this meeting was changed from the normal Tuesday to Monday evening. www.ParamusPost.com accompanied by co-publisher Sophie Stone raced from one meeting to the Borough Hall. Arriving late, they missed some of the awards, but were quick to notice that the officials were dressed in jeans. Mayor Tedesco explained that it was because they are declaring December as “Help your neighbor” month. To promote this the Mayor and Council were all wearing jeans and promoting donations to the food pantry in town.

We arrived in time to see State Farm representative and Paramus resident John Baldino make a $2,500.00 donation from State Farm to the Borough for use in the Fire Department. Councilman Conte and Mayor Tedesco gratefully accepted the check.

Food donations are needed, volunteers are needed and money to feed our needy is needed. Mayor Tedesco asked our residents to please donate, be it food, time or money. Contact Borough Administrator Anthony Iacono either at the Borough Hall or call 201 265 2100 x 613 to assist in this time of need.

Santa will arrive at Petruska Park on December 21st. Work on the pool has begun and hopefully everything will be ready for the 2009 opening. A new food market, Foodware Market will donate meals for the Paramus residents Xmas dinner. A new entity, this organization will open soon at the Fashion Center. Space from the inner mall will be converted to the market. Instead of a mall concept, all stores at The Fashion Center will have external egress and exit.

An aside: After the meeting was over, I happened to mention to Maureen O'Brien that we hadn't met. Correcting me, she even pinpointed the time and day. It was at the Police/Fire softball game in July. Maureen was with Pat, her husband, who did the introduction.

Borough Administrator Anthony Iacono seems not to be able to stop being active. We learned that he teaches Political Science at Drew University among other activities. Learning that many of his students, even though studying the Political Science course, had never attended a Mayor and Council meeting in any town, he invited them to Paramus.

Mayor Tedesco closed the meeting by wishing everyone a joyous holiday season. He stated that due to personal problems, he might not be able to attend some functions but wanted Paramus to know that he would be with them in spirit if not in person.
