A key founding member of Englewood Hospital and Medical Center’s (www.englewoodhospital.com) patient blood management program has been elected to the Board of Directors of The National Anemia Action Council. Sherri Ozawa, RN, Manager of Clinical and Program Development of The New Jersey Institute for Bloodless Medicine and Surgery at Englewood Hospital will provide The Council with guidance and support from a nursing standpoint.
“Blood transfusions are considered a last resort option for anemic patients,” said Dr. Aryeh Shander, Executive Medical Director of The Institute for Bloodless Medicine. “Sherri’s knowledge of patient blood management is certain to be an invaluable resource for The National Anemia Action Council as they work together to develop practices that will help anemia patients to lead fuller, richer lives.”
Anemia develops when there are not enough healthy red blood cells in the human body. This medical condition can have severe, life threatening effects if not diagnosed and treated properly. Millions of Americans are affected by anemia each year.
