Demarest Writer Will Share Excerpts of Memoir, Visit with Residents, at Allendale Community for Mature Living
The Atrium, the supportive independent senior residence at The Allendale Community for Mature Living, has arranged a special appearance by guest author Emily Mikulewicz at an upcoming Book Club meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 10. Mikulewicz will be on hand to discuss her book entitled, "Carrying On: A Somewhat Geriatric Love Affair." The program is scheduled for 2 p.m. in the Activities Room and is open to the public.
“Carrying On” is Mikulewicz’s memoir of her late-in-life love affair with a long-time friend. The story describes their five-year union and chronicles the couple’s challenges, joys, opportunities and ultimately, heartbreak. Mikulewicz will read excerpts from the book and sign copies for attendees. Information about the book can be found at www.carryingonbook.com/
The Atrium at The Allendale Community for Mature Living is known for its enriching and educational activities, many of which are open to area seniors. The Book Club is led by Atrium Resident and librarian, Grace Parkin, one of the community’s Sunshine Volunteers. Parkin maintains the library and started the monthly book club meeting several years ago.
“Grace does a terrific job in our library, and her enthusiasm is contagious,” said Mary Stampleman, ADC, Director of Therapeutic Recreation & Community Relations at the upscale senior residence. “She saw the need for a program that addresses a specific interest of our active residents and started the Book Club on her own. It’s been very popular,” she added.
The Allendale Community for Mature Living is located at 85 Harreton Road in Allendale, off Route 17 South. For more information about this or other events at The Atrium, call (201) 818-7979 or visit www.allendalecommunity.com.
