Planned Companies, a leader in the janitorial/maintenance, concierge/doorman and security services industry since 1898, is pleased to announce that Robert A. Francis, president, Christy Metz, regional director of sales, and Astrit Gorana, vice president of operations for Planned Building Services, a division of Planned Companies, will be speaking at the Institute of Real Estate Management’s (IREM) annual Tri-State Conference about the importance of Green Cleaning on February 19, 2009 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
“The topic of Green Cleaning is not only something of great importance to Planned Companies, but it is a weighty issue that continues to gain momentum in the real estate industry due to its positive impact on real estate owners around the globe,” said Robert A. Francis, president of Planned Companies. “When we were approached by IREM to present at this conference, we saw this as a perfect opportunity to educate building owners, developers, management and on-site maintenance personnel about the importance of Green Cleaning. By defining, debunking and demystifying the myths behind establishing these sorts of programs, we hope to deliver the message that Green Cleaning is no longer merely an option, but a cost effective necessity in order to help protect the environment and enhance the working areas for the building tenants and residents.”
Scheduled to take place on February 19, 2009 at the Borgata Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Planned’s four (4) 30 minute presentations, entitled “Green Cleaning: Defined, Debunked and Demystified,” will provide real estate professionals with the basics of setting up and overseeing a Green Cleaning program in their buildings. Specifically, the presentation will focus on the basics of Green and LEED, as well as the specifics on Green Cleaning and the steps required to commence and/or enhance the building cleaning and maintenance programs.”
As supporters of the “Green Movement,” Planned Companies’ core values focus on providing exceptional and accountable customer service for its clients. As part of these core values, Planned Companies officially launched its “Go Green” initiative on July 1, 2008, with its long-time client, Crum and Forster Holdings Incorporated. This initiative called for the replacement of 95 percent of Planned’s current janitorial cleaning products with alternatives that are far less toxic, non-corrosive and biodegradable. This change is not just safer for the environment, but will ultimately allow Planned’s clients and staff to live and work in safer environments with improved air quality. In addition, these “Green” products will help control disease due to lessened contact with toxins and corrosive chemicals, along with a reduced chance of sickness due to allergic reactions and eye, skin and/or lung damage.
Following the initial roll-out of Planned’s “Go Green” initiative, additional clients were added to the “Green” roster in mid-September, including the New Jersey locations of Automatic Data Processing, Inc. (ADP), CB Richard Ellis, Bergman Real Estate Group and at Sotheby’s in New York City. In addition, on October 11th, 2008, Planned donated their time and services through New Jersey Cares for a day of green cleaning at the Sussex Avenue School of Arts and Sciences located at 307 Sussex Avenue in Newark, New Jersey.
And finally, Planned Companies decided to pursue a voluntary LEED Professional Accreditation program to further display its dedication and knowledge of green building practices in the janitorial, maintenance and, where applicable, front desk/security services industry. With this accreditation in their arsenal of services, Planned will be able to deliver specific credits to clients seeking to obtain LEED certification for their buildings. To date, three of Planned’s top executives, including Robert Francis, president and CEO, and Astrit Gorana, vice president of operations for Planned Building Services, are LEED APs, with two other Planned employees expecting to earn their LEED APs by early 2009.
