Chinese New Year at Trinity
Trinity Presbyterian Church located at 650 Pascack Road, Paramus celebrated the Chinese New Year after their regular church service, The Reverend Dr. Samuel M. Stone conducted the regular service and opened the New Year celebration with a prayer. NJ State Assemblywoman Connie Wagner attended the celebration and gave a Commendation to Ms. King Lai Ma for her dedication in teaching cultural dancing to the children. Mayor James Tedesco was unable to attend, but sent a Borough Commendation for Ms. King Lai Ma.
Cassy Stone read the program as each act performed and her friend, Janice Wang translated it in Chinese to a packed audience. We heard Jasmine Flower Song played by Cassy on the piano, the fabulous Lion Dance performed by the Bergen Chinese School – Lion Dance Group Sifu Henry Lee and troupe and the King Lai Cultural Dance groups performing a Flag Dance, a Long Sleeve Dance, a Pick tea leaves and a butterfly dance.. We were treated to a playing of the Gu-zheng by Christine Yoe.
Upon entering the lobby of the church, there was a double table featuring a flower exhibition by Toshio Okimatsu and his students. Connie Wagner was highly impressed with the individuality and splendor of the floral displays.
After the beautiful dance presentations, we were offered a buffet featuring Chinese foods.
