Paramus Sunrise Rotary Learns About College Funding
By Mel Fabrikant Sunday, March 29, 2009, 02:38 PM EDT
Meeting 3/24/09
Bob Traitz, 1st Vice President/Investments of Stifel, Nicolaus & Company spoke at the Tuesday AM meeting of the Paramus Sunrise Rotary Club. Just when one thinks they have understood the ins and outs of college funding, along comes someone like Traitz to show how to analyze the costs and to take advantage of different funding mechanisms.
Bob spoke from personal experience as he explained how to invest monies in different ways to gain the most impact and savings. A college planning specialist, he mentioned that George Washington University is among the most expensive places of learning.
Scholarship money can come from merit aid, financial need and tax strategies. For example Rutgers decided to build up their sports area. Merit aid was funneled into that direction. This would build interest from sports minded applicants.
Gary Spivak, Club Treasurer, took over as representative for the Rotaract Canoe trip scheduled for May 31st. He has agreed to handle the paperwork for Paramus Sunrise Rotary. The club decided to join up with the District Community Service Passaic River Water Solution on May 2nd, the kickoff date for the month long District cleanup. Paramus Sunrise and the Paramus Rotaract Club will clean up a Paramus brook on Saturday, June 6th.
