Tuesday, March 31, 2009

Bobby’s Burger Palace
Bergen Town Center
610 Bergen Town Center
Paramus, NJ
Tel 201-368-7001

Bobby's Burger Palace (BBP) presents an array of burgers inspired by Bobby’s extensive travels throughout America and love of the grill in a convenient casual setting.

The 74-seat BBP is a nod to a classic burger joint and Bobby’s tribute to America’s regional flavors and traditions. This is Bobby’s third BBP; the first outpost opened in July 2008 in Lake Grove, NY on Long Island; the second BBP opened in December 2008 in Eatontown, NJ. Yes it is open and no it is not worth it. Went there Wednesday. It was packed (expected). Upon arrival the place looks nice. But the food? Awful. I got the Dallas Burger, which is spice encrusted with coleslaw and pickles. The spices on the burger were disgusting and I expected something much better from the self-proclaimed bold flavor king. My fiancee got the LA Burger with the turkey patty. I know turkey burgers aren't quite as juicy as beef, but this was ridiculous. She had to take a drink after every bite just to swallow and the avocado relish that came with it, well maybe it's just my professional opinion but avocados just don't go very well. The burgers were both small and overpriced at 7.50 each. We also got an order of fries and an order of onion rings, also over priced. I could have gotten better fries at McD's and the onion rings were under seasoned and under fried. And the milkshakes? Overpriced again. I got the black and white and it tasted almost identical to a Wendy's frosty. And the "real" whipped cream was overwhipped and gritty. And at 5 dollars each, very much not worth it. The service was good overall. I am a big fan of family style dining, but not at all in this type of establishment. When trying to make a modern malt shop, family style isn't something that I think works. And as for Bobby Flay? I've called him a boss and a colleague, but most of all I would call him a sell out. This place is just horrible and after reading some people's opinions of the Long Island one, it is not a one time occurence. If it wasn't for people wanting to eat at a "celebrity" chef's restaurant, this place would be closed inside 6 months. As for all the people that will respond that it is just a burger place what can I expect? First, Fudruckers is ten times better than this place. And second, go to 'witchcraft and you can see what a celebrity chef can do with a casual place. All in all I give Bobby's Burger Palace an F- - - - . Even though I am not a fan of Bobby, I expected more. And for close to forty bucks for 2 people, not worth it. Don't waste your time with this place

re: rluke2286 I was just there this afternoon. I could not agree with you more on your assessment of the Burger Palace. I also had the Black and White shake (could have made a better one at home), we got the Crunchburger (basically a cheeseburger with 5 potato chips on top), and I got the onion rings (I paid $3 for 5 onion rings). I have had better burgers at Five Guys, The Pour House and The Sitting Duck. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I was completely disappointed. I paid $17 for something I could have gotten elsewhere for a lower price. I, most likely, will not go back.

re: CynicalC I was there a little after you. I concur completely. I had the sweet potato fries, which were pretty good. But the burger was nothing special, and I needed a magnifying glass to find it. The chips were a nice touch, like what I did as a kid, but so what. If it had been half the price it might have been worthwhile, but not $6.50 for a standard 3 or 4 ounce burger. I will likely not return.

I predict that after the Christmas rush and newness wear off, it will be deserted. There are just too many nearby better choices. It won't last two years.

re: rluke2286 Do yourself a huge favor and drive down 35 from the mall to Belmar and have burger at Boom. Their burgers and fries are exceptional.

I was there on Tuesday just before 12 noon. First thing you have to go out side the mall to get into the place. Bad if it is a raining.  Once inside you go to the register to place your order (long lines) and then they give you a plastic ten with a number on it to go find a seat.  They then bring you your order and leave and never appear again.  Me and my wife each ordered a burger, the menu states eating raw or under cooked meat can make you sick.  the burgers came and were only searer on the outside and in side was RAW meat.  sent it back as asked for a done burger tio get also the same thing back.  Explained that we did not want to see red raw meat finally got them on the third try that was not raw.  We were near the location where the burgers come out and saw that someone else had sent theres back for being under cooked. The burgers are not one that you would say lets go there again to get.  The fast food places are just as good and cheaper and faster. The Friday's type places are better with service and only a few bucks more.  This place is in the middle and does not have a better burger.  Just burgers with funny names and different toppings to go with the marketing names.

With only a few places in this mall to eat  you will go there, if there was other like choices you will go to them.  If there was a thrown down for burgers this place would lose.

I see that the other locations that he has onpened people are saying that this place is not a winner.  Bobby came in just before we left and he took over the job of the person who was directing the people delivering the orders.  No checking as to what was taking place in the shop.

HORRIBLE...Stay away. 40 minute wait while the managers sat and chatted. The burgers arrived cold and undercooked. They were inedible. The fries were room temperature and not good. A complete disaster.

It is short of being a scam. That's what I will call this place. If you want a good burger go somewhere else. If you want to see a nice burger restaurant and waste money, go here.
