Sponsored by the Foundation at Bergen Regional Medical Center
Bergen Regional Medical Center (BRMC) is offering the Family & Friends® CPR Anytime® Personal Learning Program free of charge to the community. This specially created program will take place in the auditorium of Building 6 on April 22, 2009 from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m., and participants will receive free personal CPR kits. Pre registration is required.
Developed by the American Heart Association in collaboration with Laerdal, Family & Friends® CPR Anytime® is a self-directed, personal CPR kit that makes learning the core skills of CPR easy, convenient, and fun for the whole family. It takes just 22 minutes to learn and was developed to increase CPR knowledge and awareness among the general public – those who do not traditionally attend CPR courses.
This program does not provide certification in CPR, but does provide essential education on life saving training. This free community workshop, made possible by funding provided by the Foundation at Bergen Regional Medical Center, will feature CPR instructors from BRMC’s American Heart Association approved Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training and certification.
The knowledge and the personal kits can be used by participants to ‘train it forward’ and share their newly acquired CPR knowledge with their friends and family.
“Research has shown that the most important determinant of survival from sudden cardiac arrest is the presence of a trained rescuer who is ready, willing, able, and equipped to act,” said BRMC Life Support Training Center Coordinator and Community & Health Educator, Jeanette Previdi. “Having this center at Bergen Regional provides people with an easily accessible location to obtain the training needed to make a difference.”
Some other facts about cardiac arrest and CPR:
Almost 80 percent of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur at home and are witnessed by a family member
Only 6.4 percent of sudden cardiac arrest victims survive because the vast majority of those witnessing the arrest are people who do not know how to perform CPR I more people knew CPR, more lives could be saved. Space is limited for this free community CPR program. Reserve your spot by calling Donna Corrieri at 201.225.7141. Reservations must be made by April 17th to participate in the class. Due to space and kit availability, those who do not pre-register will not be able to participate.
