Fairway Donation
This was the plaint of Paramus Director of Human Services, Irene Maury and the response when she contacted Howie Glickberg of the newly opened Fairway Market at the Fashion Center. In dire need of provisions for Easter to distribute to Paramus needy families, she had nowhere to turn. After all, Fairway had recently donated three skids of food a couple of months before. Howie Glickberg reassured her; he couldn't stand for families going hungry at Easter time. This gracious owner and Dan, his son, donated the following:
Hams, oven stuffer roasters, legs of lamb and a kielbasa ring; eggs; loaves of assorted bread; large pies; bags of red and white potatoes; bags of onions; cans of sliced pineapple; boxes of sugar; bottles of assorted juice; jars of vinegar; jars of olive oil; boxes of food coloring and assorted produce. There was enough food for Maury to service many of the families that now depend on her department.
Present to thank him from Paramus were Mayor Tedesco and Irene Maury. Present from the borough were Rich Abbamont and Mark Casiello who were there to transport the viands to the Human Resource Center and deliver them inside. Mayor Tedesco accompanied them and assisted in transferring the heavy boxes from the pickup trucks to the building. Irene and volunteers Pearl and Jenny brought them into the rooms. Four Girl Scouts from Troop 250 came a few minutes later and helped to allocate the foodstuff.
Over at Fairway, Joe Ludica and Nancy Gallin were busy along with Fairway personnel assembling and checking out the foodstuff. They then assisted Abbamont and Casiello in loading the vehicles.
The people at Fairway deserve a lot of credit for their community spirit. Thank you Fairway!
