K OF C FUND DRIVE APRIL 23-26
By Mel Fabrikant Thursday, April 09, 2009, 04:27 PM EDT
Last year this drive raised $20,250, thanks to a matching gift of $10,000 from the OritaniSavingsBank Charitable Foundation. We hope to do as well again this year. All knights volunteer their time for these activities and bear any expenses themselves. This fundraising event will continue through Sunday, April 26. Donations by mail, to the K of C Charity Fund, 79 Pascack Road, Township of Washington, NJ 07676 are always welcome, all year long.
The Knights of Columbus was founded in 1882 at St. Mary’s Church in New Haven, Connecticut, by Fr. Michael J. McGivney. It is the world’s largest Catholic, family, fraternal, service organization with over 1.76 million members in some 13,500 local councils in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Guam, Guatemala, Panama, the Virgin Islands, the Dominican Republic, the Bahamas and Saipan. It is dedicated to Church, community, family, and youth programs. Last year individual Knights spent 69 million hours in volunteer services and the Order donated $145 million in charitable contributions. Members of the K of C also spent 6 million hours visiting the sick and bereaved and delivered 10 million hours in fraternal services to them. Additionally 393,807 Knights were blood donors. The New Jersey Knights donated $4,568,772 to charities last year.
