Meeting 06/23/09
Liz Mason, our Program Chair, scheduled Karen Winick, Manager of Volunteers and Corporate/Community Relations for Children's Aid and Family Services as our speaker. Along with Karen came a bundle of happiness who greeted me by first name. Turned out to be Mary Pat Boron whom Sophie and I had met at the CAFS gala There's No Place Like Home which was the theme for the event held March 27th at the Hackensack Golf Club.
Karen and Mary Pat talked about the Baby Basics in addition to the need for volunteers in foster care, mentoring, adopting and assisting at the offices. Do you realize that just diapers and baby necessities can cost over $3,000.00 a year? They outlined the many ways that one can help support a newborn. For further information, contact 201 445 7015; offer your help!
There were various pieces of electrical wire on the tables in Classroom 101 left there by students of a previous class. Buzz Dressel got up to explain to our group about the various uses. His knowledge was so intense that it was suggested to Buzz that he schedule a program. That should be fairly easy since our incoming Vice President and Program Chair is John DeBouter, President of IBEW Local 164. ☺
Later that morning, President Anthony Iacono asked for assistance in completing his Meals on Wheels monthly commitment. Sophie Stone and I responded and accompanied Anthony on his run. It is a very gratifying experience.
