You want to get rid of your pest problems, but you say NO to pesticides in and around your home or business. You say to yourself, do I have to use pesticides or is there a safe and less toxic way to treat for pest?
Green Pest Management is not just a new name for IPM. (Integrated Pest Management), as with IPM, Green Pest Management means different things to different people. Unfortunately, several organizations are trying to convince Pest Management Professionals (PMPs) that Green Pest Management is nothing more than a new name for IPM….resisting the fast growing reality of the inevitability of Green Pest Management. As the professional industry could never agree on one definition for IPM, it is no wonder that there is confusion on a standard definition of Green Pest Management. In reality, IPM is not the same as Green Pest Management, but is a key component within it.
The foundation of Green Pest Management is the primary difference between Green Pest Management and IPM, because it is the use of “green” products as the first line of defense. If specific measures are required to get the job done, a PMP may then use conventional products with the customers’ permission and notification. Remember, Green Pest Management is about what you use and how you use it.
Green Doesn’t Mean Organic. Some firms will build their green service programs around using conventional products and call their service green. In broad terms, “Green” means environmentally-friendly products and practices. It tends to be a self-imposed marketing term with no hard-fast rules attached. Because “green” is such a vague term, companies often misuse it which leads to “greenwashing”, the perception of consumers that they are being misled regarding the environmental practices of the company or the environmental benefits of a product or service.
“Organic” means compliance with the law as written in the National Organic Program (NOP), for more information, go to www.ams.usda.gov/nop/. The Pest Management industry and consumers can expect to see more regulatory oversight involving green service programs.
So as a consumer how can you tell if a firm is really applying organics? You can ask to see the product labels, EcoSMART BOTANICALS™, a blend of plant oils, tested and proven to kill and control a broad spectrum of insects.

EcoPCO® Products: are registered with the EPA and carries an EPA number.

EcoPCO products utilize new technology developed by EcoSmart that uses plant oils in place of piperonyl butoxide to synergize pyrethrum. This discovery not only provides a dual mode-of-action, but more importantly it creates PY-based products that provide residual protection comparable to conventional products.
If you really are looking to resolve your pest problems the Green way, then hire a pest control firm that applies with true USDA National Organic Program products. As a Pest Management Professional, we are constantly striving to improve our service by utilizing the latest technology available. We proudly use products from EcoSmart Technologies which contain patented blends of botanical oils that effectively targets a broad spectrum of pests…not people or pets.
