President Mukesh Malkan announced that we will have a Gift of Life (GoL) child this weekend. GoL Foundation Chairperson Paul Platek informed Malkan and Past President Anthony Iacono that he anticipates arrival of Paramus Sunrise Rotary Club's first GoL child (from Jamaica) this weekend. Iacono, who in his year as Charter President, not only raised the $6,000.00 needed but also volunteered to host the child and family.
Alicia Sansarricq from the Rotary Club of Wayne had as her topic: "Ever See Two Sisters Who Don't Look Alike?" A little deceptive, she spoke about Taiwan as related to both Japan and China. Deceptive because had the subject of Taiwan been mentioned, Dr. Michael Yeun would have attended and defended his beloved Taiwan.
Alicia did not knock Taiwan, as a matter of fact she spoke about some of the Taiwanese Rotary Clubs and their observance of Rotary and its protocols. President of Sigourney International, an Import-Export-Overseas Manufacturing company, Alicia had to stay later to carry on questions and answers. Hasmukh Khatri, President of a NYC manufacturing company exchanged cards with Alicia. Hasmukh donated $1,000.00 worth of clothing samples for the recent Sunrise Rotary Club Fashion Show.
Malkan had announcements from the previous evening's District Governor Raj Bhatia's first staff meeting attended by Sunrise members Malkan, Gary Spivak and Mel Fabrikant. Bergen Community College Rotary Club will have their first new President, Marie Jardine, installed at Biagio's on Monday, August 10th at 6:30 PM. Ridgewood Rotary Club is auctioning a Ford Fusion Hybrid offered by their 501 (c) Foundation on September 11th.
