In their desire to be involved in Community Service, the yet to be chartered Rotaract Club of Paramus decided to hold an Essentials Drive at the Paramus Stop and Shop super market on Route 17 South. Checking with Paramus Human Services Director Irene Maury, they learned that some essentials such as Personal Care items and Household Products are not included in items purchased by food stamps.
In the three hours that they solicited goods for the Paramus Food Bank, they came away with shopping cart loads of donated goods. These were delivered to The Department of Human Services and Irene Maury was delighted. In addition, Rotaract had approached bulb importer Bulbrite and received 2 cases, 240 pieces, of 60 and 75 watt incandescent light bulbs. These were also donated to the Food Bank.
The Rotaract club meets every other Wednesday at the Paramus Berkeley College campus at 6 PM. There is a meeting scheduled for Wednesday evening, 7/22/09, tonite.
These 18 to 30 year olds under the leadership of President Sid Wilker went to Stop and Shop with a printed list of some of these items. They handed them out to people entering the store and waited outside the exit to collect donated items. They also requested food store gift cards so that the victims of the recession could use them to make purchases as well.
