There are no rules of deception and the book goes on to prove it. A well written novel by Christopher Reich, published by Anchor Books, it holds the reader's interest right to the end of the deception. It deals with a surgeon's loss of his wife while on a ski trip. An avalanche forces them to seek shelter and the husband, Dr. Jonathan Ransom, to leave her to seek aid for her injury. What transpires is a journey into the mystery of the rules of deception.
It starts when on return from seeking aid, he discovers his wife's body lying in a crevasse that is unobtainable during the snowstorm. Back at their hotel, he receives an envelope containing baggage claim tickets at a railway station. He pursues this while grieving for his wife and is accompanied by a mutual friend of theirs.
Ransom gets involved with two hoodlums who try to get the property away from him. Their deaths then involve the Swiss police and Ransom is on the run. He wiggles in and out of perilous situations while trying to ascertain why his wife had led a double life. The contents of the pieces at the baggage claim had turned out to be clothing and money beyond his imagination. The trail leads him and the friend into several conflicts involving Swiss and American intelligence as well as a plot by a group seeking world dominance.
Rules of Deception will hold your interest from the beginning. A word of caution, you will not be able to figure out the ending, no matter how hard you try!
