Paramus Sunrise Rotary Club Has An Action Filled Couple Of Weeks

Paramus Sunrise Meeting 10-13-09 Starting with a talk by Freeholder Julie O'Brien , an International Thai Dinner, a Baby Basics drive and a talk by David DeOliveira, D. C., a meeting with a representative from the Rotary Foundation plus plans for their Fashion Show on May 21st, 2010, the nascent Rotary Club retains its busy pace. Paramus Sunrise Rotary was also represented at the multi-District Vocational Assembly at the Birchwood Manor.

Julie O'Brien, Bergen County Freeholder, explained the services that were available to the residents of Bergen County. To her credit, she did not mention that she was running for reelection.

The club holds themed dinners every few months. This gives members a chance to chat and bring their families, something not afforded at the one hour Tuesday morning meetings held at the IBEW Training Center. While this dinner had a Thai theme, in the past, they have held a very successful India themed dinner. Not part of the theme, the members have had Installation Dinners at Sanzari's. Next on the schedule is an Italian dinner followed by a Greek dinner in January.

On Saturday, several Rotarians and their children held a successful Baby Basics drive at ShopRite in Paramus. Led by Rotarian Donna Kennedy, the group braved cold and inclement weather to collect donations of money and diapers. NJ State Assemblywoman Connie Wagner stopped by. After contributing money and diapers, Connie greeted shoppers and helped by getting them to contribute.

Liz Mason, our President Elect, is planning for our Fashion Show already. Our first show netted enough for the club to sponsor a Gift of Life child from Jamaica with a cardiac problem. Then President Anthony Iacono acted as the host family and made a lifelong friend of little Lacey Ann. Liz is looking for models and gifts for the Tricky Tray.

After the meeting was over, a Gift of Life meeting was planned to discuss how to dispense of the funds generated by Fairway Market's generous offer stemming from National Night Out. Past District Governor Domenic Jengo, Paul Platek, Mukesh Malkan, Mel Fabrikant and by conference phone, John Mosca were in attendance.

President Mukesh Malkan, while satisfied with the progress is looking to make the club better. Looking to the future, he is seeking more worthwhile members. Access www.paramussunrise.org for information.
