With an initial order of just 18,000 copies exactly six years ago, THE ZOMBIE SURVIVAL GUIDE has gone on to be one of Three Rivers Press’ most successful backlist titles and has been published in 18 other countries. Since then, Brooks has written WORLD WAR Z: AN ORAL HISTORY OF THE ZOMBIE WAR, a post-apocalyptic novel. A New York Times bestseller, it is soon to be made into a motion picture by Brad Pitt’s Plan B production company. In addition and most recently, Brooks authored the graphic novel, THE ZOMBIE SURVIVAL GUIDE: RECORDED ATTACKS, that debuted at #1 on the New York Times bestseller list (Graphic Book List) this week.
Philip Patrick, Vice President & Publisher of Three Rivers Press, said today about hitting the 1 million mark: “This is an amazing testament to the editorial integrity of the book that was first envisaged, and Max’s unerring commitment to support it the right way to his growing legion of fans. But clearly, this book has gone beyond Max’s fan base and is now a staple in popular & mainstream culture.” Mr. Patrick also oversaw the marketing campaign at the time that ensured the book was positioned as a serious survival manual that should be used at the outbreak of the next zombie pandemic.
After its launch in the fall of 2003, THE ZOMBIE SURVIVAL GUIDE has spurred countless other books on zombies, along with its own line of products such as The Zombie Survival Guide Journal that gives people a chance to record their to-do lists and survival strategies, and The Zombie Survival Guide Flashcard Deck, created to provide private citizens with an emergency crash course in basic zombie survival techniques.
