Annual Toy Drive One of Many Holiday Outreach Projects Sponsored by Electrical Union
The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 164 is joining the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve “Toys for Tots Program” as a designated drop-off site. New, unwrapped children’s gifts are now being accepted weekdays until Friday, December 11, 2009, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the IBEW Local 164 Training Academy, located at 65 West Century Rd., in Paramus, N.J. Donations will be distributed to youngsters in need who reside within the surrounding community during this holiday season.
Each year, Local 164 collects toys for children and families associated with numerous community organizations throughout Bergen, Hudson and Essex counties. The Toys for Tots campaign has special significance because it is an opportunity for the Local to support the Marine Corps Reserve as well as those confronted by economic or health-related challenges at this festive time of the year.
Established in 1947, Toys for Tots is an annual event sponsored by local Marine Corps Reserve units nationwide. In addition to accepting new, unwrapped toys, the program is served by community volunteers, financial donations and corporate sponsors, such as Toys R Us.
The annual toy collection is one of many community outreach projects sponsored by Local 164 throughout the year. Past efforts include participating in Hackensack University Medical Center’s Annual Gift Giving Program for children who are ill and their siblings; Rebuilding Together Bergen County, Jersey City and Newark, annual home repair events to help seniors and families; and donating skills and materials to a wide range of charitable organizations, including Gilda’s Club Northern New Jersey.
