Meeting 11-11-09
Mayor James Tedesco was absent from the regular Tuesday meeting. Council President Denis Niland officiated. There not being many items on the agenda and a very short public session, the meeting lasted for about an hour. Council Reports were also very short.
Council Reports covered a H1N1 report by Rich Conte explaining that James Amoressano, Superintendent of Schools and John Hopper were working it out. Fred Hayo mentioned the Veteran Day program at Memorial School, Maureen O'Brien commented about the Bergen Town Center's new openings and that the mall was filling up, LaBarbieri praised the volunteers of the Rescue and Fire Departments for affording the Paramus children a Safe Halloween. He also mentioned Paramus High championship football games Friday and Sunday, the latter being at the Sports Complex. Cathy Bentz praised the DPW and Brian Koenig for not only securing a large financial grant, but also for the wonderful work that they do in town. Quite recently, the DPW launched a food drive to help the Paramus Food Bank under the direction of Irene Maury.
On Agenda Items Only, Sam Casiello posed a question that required research. Councilman Rich LaBarbieri and Borough Attorney John TenHoeve along with /Deputy Borough Clerk Toni Falato answered the question about placement and financing of a request for proposals to provide traffic safety cameras within the Borough. Stressed was the fact that it was a request for a proposal and not a bid.
One resident complained about COAH and the fact that more expense had been involved in hiring someone to oversee the dispersal of monies. John TenHoeve explained that the monies involved in hiring Diane Marichal and the dispersal of the over one million dollars came from accrued builder contributions and not the town budget. He mentioned that there was a meeting at the Borough Hall recently where residents filled out applications for home improvements, not new construction. The monies granted would be a loan, forgiven if the resident stayed there for twenty years.
