Company Announces Discount on Cordless Window Treatments Through January - Child Safety Tips Provided
– Blinds To Go, the nation’s largest manufacturer/retailer of blinds and shades, issued a statement today that its roman shades and all its window treatment products comply with the provisional update of the American National Standard for Safety of corded window coverings products. Blinds To Go does not make or sell roll-up blinds.
Blinds To Go operates nearly 100 stores in the US and Canada and an online shop at www.blindstogo.com, selling only product that it manufactures at company-owned and operated facilities in North America. In addition to offering roman shades optimized for safety, the company takes other measures to ensure the safe installation and operation of corded window treatments. This includes packaging cleats for securing cords to the wall or window frame with every order, adding no-load bearing safety clips on its flat panel shades and educating customers on safety precautions to be taken with corded products.
For those parents who want to eliminate the cord entirely, a kit is available from the Window Covering Safety Council. The council can be reached at 1-800-506-4636 or online at www.windowcoverings.org.
Cordless versions of blinds and shades are universally recommended for children’s rooms and play areas. Recognizing this, Blinds To Go will assist any concerned parents who choose to install cordless window covering solutions by offering a 40% discount on spring roller shades and by selling the cordless cellular shades at the price of the corded version. This discount is available now through January 31, 2010.
Blinds to Go will continue to work closely with the CPSC and comply with any updates to current standards. Through its highly-trained store personnel, Blinds To Go counsels customers daily about proper installation, safety standards and product options.
In light of heightened concern, here are a few general safety tips from Blinds To Go:
Move cribs, beds, and furniture in children’s rooms away from windows and window cords, preferably to another wall.
Make sure that tasseled pull cords are short, and that continuous-loop cords are permanently anchored to the floor or wall.
Lock cords into position when horizontal blinds or shades are lowered, including when they come to rest on a windowsill.
Replace window shades and blinds manufactured before 2001, when the industry enacted more stringent safety requirements for manufacturers. Or, retrofit older window treatments with a tie-down device available at hardware stores.
Be mindful that pets can get caught in dangling cords, too.
