Small businesses are considered the economy’s “engine.” In the case of small business owner James Dziekonski, engines are his business.
Dziekonski, owner of Tim’s Auto and Truck Care Center, LLC in Sussex, is the New Jersey Small Business Development Center at Bergen Community College 2009 Success Award winner. The SBDC, a private, national nonprofit organization supported by the U.S. Small Business Administration, provides no-cost counseling, seminars, workshops and certificate programs for existing and prospective business owners. Every year, each of the 11 centers of the SBDC recognizes a top client with the Success Award.
Dziekonski solicited assistance from the SBDC last year when a two-year hang-up caused by local permits and zoning approvals prevented him from closing on a loan and relocating his business. After turning to the SBDC, Regional Director Vince D’Elia helped him recast his financials, secure a secondary lender, revise his business plan, close on a loan and subsequently transplant his business from Unionville, N.Y. to Sussex.
D’Elia guided Dziekonski through the process. “Jim Dziekonski possesses the drive, determination and discipline necessary to achieve entrepreneurial success,” D’Elia said. “He is an example of the successes facilitated for small- and-medium-sized businesses by the SBDC.”As part of the Success Award, Dziekonski will attend a recognition event and receives a special membership in the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey.
