ROCHELLE PARK BURGLARIES
Chief Rich Zavinsky reports that the Township has had (6) residential burglaries which occurred during the last two weeks of December. A number of steps have been taken by the police in response to the problem, including increased marked and unmarked patrols to the areas in question. The chief has provided a list of suggestions residents can follow to aid the police in detecting, deterring, and apprehending those responsible. It should be noted that Rochelle Park is one of many towns experiencing a rash of burglaries. Chief Zavinsky once again asks residents to "report anything or anyone you believe to be out of the ordinary, to the police."
Burglary Arrest
On December 28, at 12:50 PM, a resident called 911 and reported someone was trying to break into his home. The homeowner scared off the burglar, and began to follow him in his car. The suspect was in Paramus when Rochelle Park Police were contacted. Paramus police apprehended the suspect in their borough and returned him to Rochelle Park. After an investigation by Rochelle Park Police and Det. Lt. Bill Flannelly, the subject, identified as Theodore Sutton age 53 of Passaic, NJ, was charged with attempted burglary, possession of burglar tools, and criminal mischief. He was committed to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of $35,000 bail.
