Bergen Launches Joint Admissions Program with Bergen County Technical High School in Teterboro

Bergen Community College has partnered with Bergen County Technical High School in Teterboro to launch a Joint Admissions Program that allows high school students to take college-level courses at Bergen Community College to obtain an Associate in Science or an Associate in Arts degree
“Bergen Community College is proud to partner with the Bergen County Technical High School in Teterboro to launch an historic initiative that gives students an opportunity to complete their first two years of college while they are still in high school,” said Dr. G. Jeremiah Ryan, President of Bergen Community College. “Through this agreement, high school students who obtain an associate’s degree at Bergen have the advantage of entering a four-year institution as a junior upon graduation from high school.”

“This is an extraordinary opportunity to give students the ability to earn a head start on their college education and to save tuition toward their liberal arts credits for their college degree,” said Andrea Sheridan, Principal of Bergen County Technical High School in Teterboro. “Bergen County Technical High School has expended a great effort in developing an outstanding curriculum and it is an exceptional honor for our teachers and students to have our courses recognized for Bergen Community College credit. We are enthusiastically looking forward to this partnership.”

High school students can earn an associate’s degree by completing up to 45 college credits by taking advanced placement and honors courses at the Bergen County Technical High School in Teterboro. These courses will also fulfill high school graduation requirements.

Courses articulated for credit at Bergen Community College range from literature to science and humanities classes.

Bergen Community College instructors will ensure the high school courses are equivalent to college courses. All faculty members at Bergen County Technical High School in Teterboro are required to meet the same teaching qualifications as professors at Bergen Community College.

High school students must complete the remaining 20 credits for the associate’s degree at Bergen Community College, where they have the option of taking online, evening and summer session courses.

Under the terms of the agreement, high school students can also receive a one-year certificate at Bergen Community College by completing 30 credits in the College’s General Education curriculum. Students can also transfer these credits to the state’s four-year public colleges.

Bergen County Technical High School, Teterboro, offers college preparatory academics and exceptional technical training in a dynamic learning environment. The school's faculty and administrative team continually strive to maintain a unique balance between tradition, innovation and change.
