Greek Dinner
Father Peter Lekkas, Pastor of Saint John The Theologian Greek Orthodox Church in Tenafly, was in charge of Paramus Sunrise Rotary Club's International Dinner celebrating Greece. It was only natural that he selected It's Greek To Me in Westwood owned by former church president George Papas. An excellent choice, George deluged us with delicacies before serving the main meal.
Served by pretty waitresses Nia and Lindsey and assisted by Ovel, appetizers served family style followed a Greek salad. Cold appetizers included Tzatziki, Hummus and Eggplant salad. Next served were hot appetizers Fried Calamari, Spinach Pies and Meatballs. All of this while we were consuming It's Greek To Me's famous pita triangles.
After gorging ourselves on the appetizers and pita slices, George Papas then offered the Main Course items. A choice of: Chicken K-Bob, Grilled Salmon, Lamb K-Bob and a grilled vegetable platter, all served over rice. Nia and Lindsay hovered over the diners offering wonderful service and packaging for leftovers.
Desserts! No matter how full, who could resist the Galatobureko and the Baklava!
Among the attendees were Glenda Campaniola and Tom Riebesell from the Paramus Rotary Club. Newly inducted members Betsy Thomason and MelO Olivieri were pleased with their first club outing as were regulars Bea and Gary Spivak, President Mukesh Malkan, Nripan Barua, Liz and Harold Mason, Caryl Gordon and Hemish Kapedia and his mother.
Betsy liked the get-together so much that she suggested a dance session in the future! This will enter the queue along with a visit to Rotarian Gary Spivak's new restaurant in Dumont when it opens as well a visit to Su, a Chinese vegetarian restaurant. Father Peter brought along a history of Greece for everyone attending.
Paramus Sunrise Rotary Club meets every Tuesday morning, 8 AM. at the IBEW Training School's Room 101, corner of Century and Robin Roads. Visit www.paramussunrise.org for more information. The meeting ends at 9AM.
