Sweetwater Completes 50,000-Square-Foot Health Care Facility In Rutherford, N.J.
Sweetwater Construction Corp., a recognized leader in New Jersey construction, management and general contracting, has announced that construction is complete at the new 50,000-square-foot MALO CLINIC facility which houses medical offices, an Ambulatory Surgery Center and MALO Advanced Oral Rehabilitation Center at 201 Route 17 North in Rutherford, N.J.
The facility was built for MALO Consulting NJ, the North American branch of MALO CLINIC Health & Wellness, a world-renowned dental innovator that has grown in recent years to encompass many medical and surgical specialties, as well as spa-related services. Founded in 1995, the Lisbon, Portugal-based MALO CLINIC Health & Wellness, known internationally for its ground-breaking oral rehabilitation services, has subsidiaries and affiliations in Spain, Italy, Poland, China, Brazil, France, Africa, and Japan.
MALO CLINIC Health & Wellness President Dr. Paulo Malo, of Lisbon, Portugal, is an inspiring international figure in the dental industry. He is credited with developing revolutionary surgical dental implant techniques utilized by many of the world's top oral surgeons and dentists.
"Sweetwater Construction is pleased to have developed this facility on behalf of such a renowned figure in the dental world as Dr. Malo and his United States-based team," said Ron Witt Sr., LEED AP, Sweetwater's founder and president. "The facility makes the latest in surgical dental implant techniques locally available to residents of northern New Jersey and the New York metropolitan area. The center is expected to draw patients from the entire country."
Additionally, Witt noted that the completion of the ambulatory center will mark a new addition to Sweetwater's expanding portfolio of surgery centers.
Sweetwater specializes in the science and technology, hospitality, multi-family and institutional sectors, but in recent years has made a particular specialty of health care and surgery centers. The MALO CLINIC Ambulatory Surgery Center is one of more than 20 major health care projects throughout the state the firm has built over the past five years.
The new facility consists of medical space, an ambulatory surgery center and the advanced oral rehabilitation center, each on a separate floor. An additional one-half floor is devoted to utilities. The ambulatory surgery center consists of four operating rooms as well as multiple exam rooms, staff offices, reception areas and doctor's lounges. The dental implant center, which will also be used for the education of dental professionals, includes more than 10 treatment rooms and over 20 private recovery areas. The 40 medical offices are located on the main floor with reception, café, a call center, radiology center, and children's play area. Future plans include the addition of medical imaging and laboratory suites, as well as a cosmetic medical spa.
The Rutherford facility is the first MALO CLINIC in North America.
The architect for the MALO Consulting NJ project was Posen Architects of West Orange, N.J., which specializes in health care facility design.
MALO CLINIC is best known for pioneering the "all-on-four" dental implant technique. A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is placed in the jaw to hold replacement teeth or dentures. MALO CLINIC's technique is aimed at restoring the mouths of patients who have been told they don't have enough bone left to support dental implants. Instead of relying on bone grafting, which is time-consuming and expensive, the technique places angled implants at the front of the jaw, where there is usually greater bone density.
In addition to being one of the world's leading developers of dental technology and oral rehabilitation, the MALO CLINIC Health & Wellness's educational center in Lisbon annually trains more than 3,500 dental professionals on the latest developments and technologies in oral rehabilitation and dental implants.
The landmark Bergen County office facility, owned by Onyx Equities, consists of two 12-story Class A office buildings at the interchange of Route 17 and Route 3. The buildings recently underwent a $6 million upgrade, including renovation of the common areas and lobbies, new façades, and landscaping and signage. The complex is convenient to public transportation as well as to Route 80, the Lincoln Tunnel and the George Washington Bridge.
