The March of the Living is an annual educational program that brings students from around the world on a two-week pilgrimage to Poland and Israel.
In Poland the students study the history of the Holocaust and examine the roots of prejudice, intolerance and hate. They also visit former sites of Jewish life and learning where they learn about the once vibrant culture that thrived in Poland before WWII.
The visit culminates with the “March of the Living” on Holocaust Remembrance Day, when thousands of teenagers from around the world, walk hand-in-hand along the three-kilometer distance separating Auschwitz from Birkenau. They march in silent tribute to all victims of Nazi tyranny and in memory of the hundreds of thousands of Jews forced by the Nazis to cross vast expanses of Europe’s terrain – the infamous “death marches”.
In Israel, the students experience the homeland of the Jewish people, reborn after 2,000 years of exile. On Yom Ha’atsmaut, together with the entire country, the students celebrate the creation of the state of Israel, dancing in the streets of her ancient capital, Jerusalem.
This spring over 10,000 students from all corners of the world will travel through Poland and Israel on the March of the Living.
Since the first March of the Living was held in 1988, over 150,000 youth from the world over have marched down the same path from Auschwitz to Birkenau on Holocaust Remembrance Day.
The International March of the Living is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization.
Donations will provide scholarships for worthy students to attend March of the Living educational programs.
