Girl Scouts to hold D.I.V.A. Latina Conference

Girls from Bergenfield, Paterson, Passaic, and Hackensack in grades 9-12 will be celebrating their Latina heritage at a free D.I.V.A. (Discover, Inspire, Value, Advocate) Latina conference being held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 20 at the IBEW Local 164, 65 West Century Road, Paramus.

Keynote speaker and award-winning author Mariela Dabbah will present information on how to “Help Your Daughter Succeed in High School and Go to College.”
Dabbah has authored several books on career advancement, job searching, and education in America from a Latino perspective. Mariela has written: Latinos in College: Your Guide to Success, Help your Children Succeed in School, Help Your Children Succeed in High School and Go to College, How to Get a Job in the US, and The Latino Advantage in the Workplace, co-authored with Arturo Poire.
In addition to Dabbah’s presentation, girls will be able to meet new people, voice their opinions about topics important to teens, celebrate their heritage and have fun. The day will include motivational speakers, career exploration, college preparation, personal finance counseling and a fashion show. The workshops are designed to empower young Latinas, help them discover themselves and their roots, inspire them with presentations facilitated by successful Latina women, help them value who they are and advocate for themselves and those in need.
JR entertainment will provide a Salsa presentation and class. Girls will also taste traditional cuisine from several Latin countries. Gift bags, transportation and food will be included.
