Sunrise Meeting 3-9-10
At the March 9th meeting of the Paramus Sunrise Rotary Club, Elaine M. Winter, Associate Director of the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater New Jersey Chapter, was the main speaker. She educated the members about this horrible disease that strikes someone every 70 seconds.
Before she spoke, President Mukesh Malkan went over some club business including the terrific time that those who attended the President’s Ball the previous Friday had encountered. Member Antonio Rosario’s wife Wendy was the designated driver and she received a vote of confidence for a safe trip.
Our Fashion Show on May 21st is fast approaching and the club members are in a frenzy to get it going and to make it the resounding success, or better, than it was last year. From the proceeds of last year’s fundraiser, Paramus Sunrise Rotary was able to donate the $6,000 needed to support a Gift of Life child. Lacy Ann came in from Jamaica with a heart ailment and left Paramus without having to carry an oxygen bottle in order to attend to every day functions. In addition, Past President Anthony Iacono was able to donate $3,000 to Tomorrow’s Children Fund at Hackensack University Medical Center.
Tickets are now available, the same bargain as last year, $40.00 per person, which includes a buffet dinner and entertainment. It is being held at the IBEW Local 164 Training Center on the corner of Century and Robin Roads. In addition to the shops at Bergen Town Center supporting the Fashion Show, a Special Grand Prize will be a shopping spree at Bergen Town Center. Special Guest Models include NJ State Assemblywoman Connie Wagner, Sheriff Leo P. McGuire and Paramus Mayor James Tedesco, hopefully with his cute little granddaughter Haley Santos. She waved to everyone as her grandfather carried her down the runway.
Not only did Elaine Winter explain that Alzheimer’s victims need 24 hour attention, but her office at 800 Kinderkamack Road in Oradell, 201 261 6009 elaine.winter@alznj.org can provide information on care giving for the caregivers. They need help in being able to deal with their loved ones who have contracted this enervating and enfeebling affliction.
Their 2010 legendary links golf raffle drawing will be held on May 27th. To get tickets, visit www.alznj.org/Legendary Links Golf Raffle or contact Elaine Winter at the address above.
