R&S Landscaping Will Give Away Free White Pine Saplings at the Ridgewood Whole Foods on April 30
The region's leading environmentally responsible landscaping firm will celebrate Arbor Day by giving local residents the opportunity to plant their own tree. As a way to encourage community greening, Midland Park, N.J.-based R&S Landscaping will give away free saplings at the Ridgewood Whole Foods, located at 44 Godwin Avenue.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, April 30, anyone who visits Whole Foods will receive a free white pine sapling, which they'll be able to pot in biodegradable cow pots provided by the store. "Arbor Day is an excellent time to recognize how important trees are for protecting our environment," said Robert Schucker, president of R&S Landscaping and Eco Earth Design. "White pines are native to this part of New Jersey, so they will thrive and support the natural eco system as they grow. They'll help to keep our air supply fresh, and will provide shade and shelter, which helps to reduce heating and cooling costs."
Throughout Arbor Day, R&S Landscaping will also display a rain barrel -- a system that provides homeowners with a consistent supply of free, fresh water for outdoor use by collecting and storing rainwater that would otherwise be lost to runoff and diverted to storm drains and streams. Adults and children who visit Whole Foods will be able to use water from the rain barrel to gently water the newly potted saplings.
"We've created this hands-on display because planting a tree is a great way to connect kids with nature," Schucker said. "We look forward to this opportunity to teach local residents about ways they can tend to the environment while also saving money and energy." For more than 25 years, R&S Landscaping has offered environmentally responsible, high-end service to residential, public and commercial properties in the areas of design/build, grounds maintenance, irrigation, lighting and plant health care.
The company maintains a number of residential and commercial landscaping projects throughout New Jersey, including a 2008 and 2009 winner of Ridgewood's Project Pride Garden Award. R&S Landscaping offers a large and diverse number of landscaping solutions, including drainage and grading installation; installation of steps, walks and walls; installation of plant material; privacy screening; installation of fencing and garden structures; pool and spa installation; sprinkler system installations; installation of landscape lighting systems; lawn renovations and more.
In addition to R&S Landscaping, Schucker recently founded a sister company, Eco Earth Design, which provides low-impact outdoor design, focusing on the installation of green roof systems, ecologically sensitive outdoor solutions, water efficient irrigation design and installation and bio-diverse landscape design.
