Kids Love Kids:
Retired Teacher Jane Cosco began Operation Goody Bag at East Brook to help the armed forces overseas. Along with East Brook Middle School student Joey Rizzolo, a plan was set up to pack Goody Bags and ship them over to the military. Joey has since gone on to Paramus High School, but Cosco has carried on. She was given a ‘shot in the arm’ by well known Green activist Deirdre Imus.
Deirdre Imus, founder and president of the Deirdre Imus Environmental Center for Pediatric Oncology® at Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC), addressed more than 700 fifth through eighth grade students during a morning assembly. She also lead the students as they filled hand-decorated lunch bags with goodies and heartfelt messages bound for kids in Haiti and for Sailors and Marines on the USS Carl Vinson in Haiti. This ship was sent to Haiti immediately following the earthquake and operated as Search and Rescue command headquarters.
Kids Love Kids- Among the speakers, along with Imus were: Bill White, President - Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum & Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, Jane Burke, RN, nurse manager at HUMC North at Pascack Valley who visited Haiti and Imus who thanked the Inserra family of ShopRite for donating the food supplies and Bernie Wilker of AlphaGraphics for donating all the colored printing.
Kids-Love Kids is a collaborative effort between the center, Operation Goody Bag, and the Catholic Medical Mission Board. OGB, Kids-Love-Kids have turned their compassionate acts into smiles and joy for hundreds of children in Haiti. The first Kids-Love Kids goody bags reached Haitian children in early March.
