Earth Day, established in the U.S. in 1970, is now a celebration recognized worldwide as a day to clean up the community and take steps toward being “green.” To commemorate the 40th anniversary, Heritage Pointe of Teaneck joined with local youth organizations to beautify the grounds of the rental retirement community.
Boys from the Chabad of Teaneck visited Heritage Pointe to plant a tree donated by Nature’s Way of New Milford, the landscaping firm that maintains the grounds at Heritage Pointe. Girl Scout Troops #894 and #412 from Ridgefield Park also spent a day beautifying the gardens by the entrance.
“Many of our residents are very eco-friendly and make it a point to recycle and pick up any litter they come across to ensure the neighborhood is clean,” stated Donna Zayat, executive director at Heritage Pointe of Teaneck. “Celebrating Earth Day with local student groups was an ideal way to bring our residents together with students who perform community service.”
In addition, many Heritage Pointe residents enjoy walking outdoors in the warmer months, especially in the Teaneck Creek Conservancy located next to the community. The 46 acres of woodlands features numerous trails where walkers enjoy spotting various birds and local wildlife while exercising.
Pat Czarnecki, a registered horticultural therapist and president of GreEn'ergy, LLC, a New Jersey-based company that provides horticultural therapy services for people of all ages, joined the residents and Girl Scout Troops to provide information on plant life and helpful gardening tips.
Heritage Pointe of Teaneck is located at 600 Frank W. Burr Blvd. in Teaneck, N.J. For more information, visit www.RetireAtHeritage.com or call Heritage Pointe at (201) 836-9260.
