Some may not know that Pat Benatar got her start in an off-Broadway musical composed by Harry Chapin when she was twenty-two. It’s true, the musical was called "The Zinger". After that, she was discovered by a record agent while singing at the New York club Catch A Rising Star. Pat Benatar has produced plenty of rock hits over the years.
Pat Benatar was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall Of Fame October 30, 2008. In her acceptance letter, she said, “My upbringing, and the values and ideals I learned back in my hometown kept me grounded. I never forget that a small town girl from Lindenhurst, LI actually got the chance to live her dreams”
Thanks to an Invite by our new friends at Prana Marketing, I was recently on the scene to see this rock icon perform at The Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood, N.J. ,and let's just say, this lady still knows how to rock!
Through a sneaky side door, down an alley, then up 3 flights of stairs, that's where I finally met with Pat and Neil just before their performance. Pat admitted that she didn't have any pre-show rituals, and after watching her perform that night, she doesn't need them! She and husband/partner/collaborator rocked the house for about two hours. Pat and Neil played nearly every song from their list of hits to include, "Love is a battlefield", "Hearbreaker", "Invincible" and more, plus one lesser known song that Pat admitted really touches her heart "Somebody's Baby".
Pat and her lead guitarist and husband of 28 years who still write songs together will be touring alongside REO Speedwagon. Definitely a not-to-be-missed performance!
Thanks to her book publicist from Harper Collins , we took a great picture of Pat holding her new book that was just handed her hot off the presses, "Between a Heart and a Rock Place."
After meeting her in person, I must say that she's by far the coolest and rockinest lady approaching 60 I've met in months! That's right, I said rockenist!
Pat's book will be released June 15, coinciding with the 2010 summer concert tour. The biography talks about Pat's life, rock 'n roll and how her generation changed music forever. For more information, including how to pre-order, check the HarperCollins site.
