Heritage Pointe of Teaneck, a full-service rental retirement community, recently hosted a networking event for the public, caregivers and healthcare professionals in conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater New Jersey Chapter. Event chairman and Association board member Russell Rothman, along with Association associate director Elaine Winter shared information with attendees about the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walks®, which raise awareness and funds nationally for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.
The Greater New Jersey Chapter hosts four regional Memory Walks every fall throughout northern, central and southern New Jersey, including one in Bergen County. This networking event at Heritage Pointe, which was so very well attended, highlighted the Northern Regional Memory Walk on October 24 at Van Saun Park in Paramus. Rothman and Winter explained how to register for a Memory Walk and start a company or family team. In addition, they also shared educational materials about Alzheimer’s disease and the organization with attendees.
Participants included area residents, family and professional caregivers and local high school students who plan to start their own team for the Van Saun Park walk. Joining Winter (far left) at the event were (left to right) Memory Walk committee member Julie Cochrane; Jean Smith of the Alzheimer’s Association; Memory Walk committee members John Riismandel and Lynne Bennett; Heritage Pointe’s Executive Director Donna Zayat and Director of Community Relations Saundra Pomerantz; and Memory Walk committee members Kevin Brendlen and Samantha Lawrence. The networking event is one example of how Heritage Pointe reaches out to the wider community to support efforts to help others.
