Annual Police Fire Softball Game
An abbreviated police softball team battled the firemen at the Paramus Sportsplex. A last inning 4 run rally did not save the men in blue from being defeated by a score of thirteen to eight. The firemen celebrated by offering a BBQ at Firehouse # 1 after the game. While the teams were in the last innings, fireworks erupted from nearby towns giving the sports fans majestic views of fireworks being propelled into the air. Paramus did have fireworks for the fourth, even though their neighbors staged them.
Mayor Tedesco was on hand to present the prized trophy cup to the firemen. Seen at the scene were County Freeholder John Driscoll, Councilman Rich LaBarbiera, Rich and Maryann Siniscalchi, Kathy Rinaldi, Rich & Margaret Abbamont and Sean Benson among the onlookers. There were fewer people attending this year which could be attributed to the heat and the current political disproval or the fact that the date was given in error by the printed press. The people who attended were rewarded with a better chance for the random prizes being offered by the 4th of July committee and by Best Buy.
Managers from Best Buy next to Fairway Market and Westfield Garden State Plaza Shopping Center were on hand offering water and discount coupons. They also offered the grand prize final drawings.
