RTBI Invites Parents, Caregivers and Young Children to Enjoy Song, Stories, Crafts and More Together
MAYWOOD, N.J., July 23, 2010 – Reconstructionist Temple Beth Israel (RTBI) announces the formation of Gan Katan (“Little Garden”), a new preschool program for children ages 5 and younger and their families, which will begin on Sunday, September 12. The classes, held every other Sunday morning, will be led by Rabbi Jarah Greenfield, the synagogue’s rabbi, who has extensive experience in children’s Jewish education. The one-hour sessions will start at 9:30 a.m. Those interested in details or enrollment information should call RTBI’s education line at (201) 845-7550, ext. 4.
“This interactive preschool program will involve not only the children but their parents or caregivers and younger siblings as well,” explained Greenfield. “By integrating the fun of song, stories and crafts for the children with short lessons for the adults, we will celebrate the joy of Jewish culture and history in a unique, intergenerational fashion geared to the whole family.” RTBI’s Hebrew school, the Children’s Learning Center (CLC), has classes for older students in grades 1-7 which meets every Sunday from 9:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. It offers a full curriculum of Jewish holiday enrichment, prayer, service-leading skills, Jewish culture and history, and bar/bat mitzvah preparation.
RTBI’s new preschool program will provide a relaxed, informal atmosphere for students and their families to learn about Jewish holidays and culture. Anyone familiar with a “Mommy & Me” kind of program will find this familiar element in the preschool. Registration is now being accepted; yearly tuition for the program is $300 per student, with sibling discounts available for families enrolling more than one student. There is also a tuition discount for temple members.
Rconstructionist Temple Beth Israel is located at 34 West Magnolia Avenue in Maywood, N.J., just off Maywood Avenue and close to Routes 4 and 17.
