Bergen County Sheriff Leo McGuire was elected to the National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA) Board of Directors

Bergen County Sheriff Leo McGuire was elected to the National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA) Board of Directors at NSA’s annual conference from June 26 through 30, 2010 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. Sheriff McGuire, a career law enforcement official and graduate of the National Sheriffs’ Institute, also serves on several NSA committees including legislative and governmental affairs and homeland security.

“It is truly an honor for me to represent the nation’s Sheriffs as well as all law enforcement in this position,” Sheriff McGuire said. “My election to NSA’s Board of Directors is a unique opportunity to share what I have learned with my counterparts around the nation and bring some of their knowledge back here to Bergen County. I look forward to serving the National Sheriffs’ Association in this new capacity.”

The Bergen County Sheriff's Office is the largest law enforcement agency in Bergen County and provides a variety of public safety functions for each of the county’s more than 900,000 residents. Comprised of more than 500 dedicated personnel, the Office's responsibilities include a broad range of services that assist the public, augment the county's municipal police departments and safeguard Bergen's judicial proceedings.
The National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA) is one of the largest associations of law enforcement professionals in the United States, representing more than 3,000 sheriffs across the nation, and a total membership of over 20,000. NSA is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising the level of professionalism among sheriffs, their deputies, and others in the field of criminal justice and public safety. Throughout its seventy year history, NSA has served as an information clearinghouse for sheriffs, deputies, chiefs of police, other law enforcement professionals, state governments and the federal government. NSA also provides management training for sheriffs and their command personnel at the National Sheriffs’ Institute and through other innovative programs, workshops, and seminars. The National Sheriffs' Association, located in Alexandria Virginia also oversees the highly successful Triad Program and Neighborhood Watch.
