Rotary Club of Teaneck Meeting Notes
By Mel Fabrikant Friday, August 27, 2010, 12:33 PM EDT
In its continuing effort of providing interesting topics of discussion, the guest speaker at this past week’s Teaneck Rotary lunch meeting was Judy Distler, Fundraising/Development Director, for the Teaneck International Film Festival (TIFF).
This year will be the Film Festivals’ 5th annual event and will take place November 19-21 (the week-end before Thanksgiving) providing thought provoking and stimulating film selections.
The idea of a film festival emerged in Spring 2005 out of discussions among ordinary citizens. With the support of the Puffin Foundation, a small group of dedicated volunteers set out to create an event that would present a collection of compelling and imaginative feature-length films, documentaries and shorts -- from a variety of cultures; foster cross-cultural connections; honor talented young Bergen County filmmakers; and encourage filmgoers to rediscover Teaneck's appeal as a shopping and dining destination. Through the generous support provided by the Puffin Foundation, all kids 12 and under will have free admission to the Kids Flix.
Jeremy Lentz, the new Executive Director of TIFF, replaces Ellen Rand who has retired after having nurtured TIFF from the beginning and establishing it as an important cultural event that is recognized and praised beyond Teaneck’s borders. Jeremy had served as marketing director last year and, prior to that, as program director for the Teaneck Festival of the Arts.
The Rotary Club of Teaneck is proud to be a sponsor of the Teaneck International Film Festival along with The Puffin Foundation, Ltd., Davis, Saperstein & Salomon, Teaneck Suburbanite, Benzel Busch, Holy Name Medical Center, Jewish Center of Teaneck and Classic Residence-a Vi Community to name just a few. For Rotary, this is a wonderful tie. Not only has the Rotary Club of Teaneck served the Teaneck Community since 1929, it is also an international organization, working with such projects as the Gift of Life Foundation, Pure Water and eradicating polio world-wide, to name a few. As with the Film Festival, Rotary crosses all cultures and all barriers. One of the objectives of Rotary is the advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through world fellowship.
Rotarians live by The Four-Way Test. Of the things they think, say or do. 1) Is it the TRUTH? 2) Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3) Will it build GOODWILL, and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4) Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
