FREE CPR Class at Bergen Regional Medical Center on September 15, 2010

Sponsored by the Foundation at Bergen Regional Medical Center
Almost 80 percent of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur at home and are witnessed by a family member. However, only 6.4 percent of sudden cardiac arrest victims survive because the vast majority of those witnessing the arrest are people who do not know how to perform CPR. If more people knew CPR, more lives could be saved. To help county residents, Bergen Regional Medical Center is hosting a free public CPR class for county residents on Wednesday, September 15 from 6:30 p.m – 7:30 pm. Pre-registration is required, and participants can call 201.225.7141 to sign up.
Bergen Regional is offering the Family & Friends® CPR Anytime® Personal Learning Program, developed by the American Heart Association in collaboration with Laerdal, free of charge to the community. This specially created program including free personal CPR kits will take place on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. in the Auditorium of Building Six at Bergen Regional Medical Center, 230 East Ridgewood Avenue in Paramus, New Jersey.
Family & Friends® CPR Anytime® is a self-directed, personal CPR kit that makes learning the core skills of CPR easy, convenient, and fun for the whole family. It takes just 22 minutes to learn and was developed to increase CPR knowledge and awareness among the general public – those who do not traditionally attend CPR courses. This kit does not provide certification in CPR but does provide essential education on life saving CPR training.
This free community workshop, made possible by funding provided by the Foundation at Bergen Regional Medical Center, not only provides each person who attends with their own no cost Family & Friends® CPR Anytime® personal CPR kit, but certified CPR instructors from Bergen Regional Medical Center’s American Heart Association approved Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training and certification center will be on hand to guide the participants through the training. The knowledge and the personal kits can be used by participants to ‘train it forward’ and share their newly acquired CPR knowledge with their friends and family.
Space is limited for this free community CPR program. Reserve your spot by calling Donna Corrieri at 201.225.7141. Due to space and kit availability, those who do not pre-register will not be able to participate.
