Joe Terrone is a professional New Jersey based artist, who can often be seen painting around town. He holds a BFA from Brooklyn College and an MFA from Pratt Institute as well as New Jersey State Certification as an Art Teacher. Joe Terrone’s plein air paintings have been shown throughout the tristate area and have been collected throughout the country. His work can be seen at Right Angle Gallery in Hoboken, NJ., and online at The Brigham Galleries(www.thebrighamgalleries.com), where his paintings are consistently selected as juror’s picks.
In the past Joe has been included in shows at the Brooklyn Museum and BACA Cultural Center in Brooklyn, NY. He is a member of the Plein Air Painters of New Jersey, The Society of Plein Air Painters, The Blackwell Street Artists, and The Lower Hudson Valley Plein Air Painters. His work can be viewed at www.joeterrone.com .
Joe was selected to participate in “Paint the Town” a premier plein air event being held in Cranford, NJ as well as the North Bennington Plein Air Competition in North Bennington VT. His painting “Last Snow” was selected as a finalist in The Artist’s Magazine’s, 28 annual competition.
After completing graduate school, Joe Terrone worked abstractly in mixed media on paper. The success he was enjoying was met head on by a strong desire to revisit realism. He began to paint outdoors. The experience was a spiritual awakening and he decided to move his energies into landscape painting. This combination of realism and abstraction was transformed into a unique energy evident in his work.
Originating from his abstract art background coupled with his response to plein air
painting, his paintings act as vehicles to express his love of nature through color and movement. His work has been influenced by Emile Gruppe’ and other artists of the Cape Ann and Bucks County area.
Joe continues to work with local organizations to further the arts in the Bergen County area. He has recently hosted a Plein Air landscape, music and arts festival in conjunction with the Jacobsen Landscape Design and Construction Company and together they are presently offering art classes in their Midland Park Showroom. Joe also offers private drawing and painting classes in his studio.
Joe is the father of three children and husband to early childhood teacher DiAnn Terrone.
