Boys & Girls Club of Garfield Alumni Miles Austin to join in honoring The Garfield Junior Boilermakers..

On a beautiful Saturday Fall Day at Dumont High School, the Garfield Junior Boilermakers of the Boys and Girls Club of Garfield found Super Bowl success, when their Senior Team ... led by Coach Jon Szucs, the power running of Avion Irving, and the hard hitting intensity of Ismail Taibi beat the Wayne PAL; 27-7 for the inaugural Super Bowl Championship of the Bergen Passaic Youth Football League.

The Jr. Boilermakers jumped on the Wolfpack early and never looked back, ending the season with an undefeated 10-0 record and their first Super Bowl Championship since 2007!!! "It is all about the kids", said Coach Szucs, a former Super Bowl winner himself in a jubilant post-game celebration ... which included a Parcells Like Gatorade Bath in the waning moments of the game!!! Szucs, went on to thank his wonderful staff of coaches, many of whom he played with or coached ... "They are a loyal and committed group, who give the kids everything they've got ... I cannot be more thankful for their efforts".

The Jr. Boilermakers were surprised by the attendance of Miles Austin Jr., father of the Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowl Wide Receiver Miles Austin, a member of the 1994 GJB Junior Championship Team, that Coach Szucs played on and that was coached by City of Garfield Mayor Frank Calendriello ... who was honored at Halftime, for being chosen to the New Jersey Mayoral Hall of Fame earlier in the week.At the end of each game, Miles Sr., was seen handing out Super Bowl T's, donated by Miles Austin #19 and the Austin Family Foundation, to each of the Pee Wee and Senior Players. When asked if the day brought some special memories with it, Austin Sr. responded, "I was misty eyed throughout"!!!

Earlier in the day, Coach Freddy Reyes's Pee Wees, in their first Super Bowl appearance lost barely to the Ridgewood Jr. Maroons; 12-6. Despite the best efforts on offense of Pee Wee Quarterback Connor Cyran and Running Back Jarred George and defense powerhouses Geovanni Twiggs and Jason Hawes ... the 8 and 2 Pee Wees lost in the last minutes of a tightly contested championship game. "I am so proud of my kids and coaches, they battled throughout the year to get here and gave our fans a courageous effort!!!", said Coach Reyes, who led his team to a Regular Season Championship as well. "We will be back!!!" ended Reyes, holding the runner up trophy, high with pride.

It was the culmination of a wonderful season, scripted by the Jr. Boilermaker Program, as their Junior Team ... coached by former Garfield High School Quarterback, Mike Messina also made the playoff field. "Last year, we restored pride and confidence in the Junior Boilermaker Program and this year we realized an unprecedented level of success ... we look forward to building upon what this amazing group of kids, coaches, and support personnel have achieved and fully intend to be back in the Championship Game, with all three of our divisions next year!!! .... commented GJB Director Jim Miller.

Miller went on to say that he hoped that the success of these great groups would breed success via a higher level of registration in the overall Boys and Girls Club Football Program. Many of these kids started their football season by participating in a very special Justin Tuck Football Camp. Club CEO, Paul Casey stated “It is great to see kids work so hard and take something from beginning to end and end with such success. The coaches and players all worked so hard and were so disciplined in the way they did things. I think some of that discipline may have started with the Justin Tuck Camp this past summer.”

The Jr. Boilermakers will hold their Super Bowl Recognition Dinner Friday, January 27, 2012 at the Garfield Senior Center at 6:00 PM. Miles Austin, WR of the Dallas Cowboys and Garfield Club alumni will be on hand to address the kids. For more information please contact Paul Casey at 973-478-7662 or email pcasey@bgcgarfield.org .
