Waterkeeper Alliance Approves Seven New Trustees
Glenn Rink Resumes Chair of Waterkeeper Alliance’s Board of Trustees. James Curleigh, Grey Hecht and Terry Tamminen Appointed to the Board of Directors. The Waterkeeper Alliance Trustee Council confirmed seven new trustees to the Trustee Council and elevated three existing trustees to the Board of Directors. Brian Acrish, Bryce Perry, Joe Tomlinson, Virginia Dadey, Yvonne Zappulla and Dominic and Heather Richardson will join Waterkeeper Alliance as Trustees in the Trustee Council.
In the process, the Trustee Council elected Glenn Rink as the Chair of the Trustees and Paul Gallay, Hudson Riverkeeper, was confirmed as the organization’s new Treasurer. James Curleigh, Grey Hecht, and Terry Tamminen were appointed from their role as Trustees to Directors on the Board of Directors. These board members join new Waterkeeper board members Dean Naujoks, Yadkin Riverkeeper, and Paul Gallay, Hudson Riverkeeper, along with newly appointed Board Chair, Deb Self, San Francisco Baykeeper.
The newest additions to the Waterkeeper Alliance leadership teams demonstrate the organization’s continued growth and commitment to the fight for clean water.

As we come upon the Clean Water Act's 40th Anniversary, while facing relentless attacks from polluters, these new leaders fortify our resolve to continue fighting for everyone's right to clean water.”

Brian Acrish, Trustee - VP Business Development, Willis Group
Brian was born and raised in Putnam County, New York. He graduated from the University of Vermont in 1991 with a bachelor’s degree in economics. Brian got his start working for the American International Group (AIG) before leaving in 1999 to open the New York office of an Israel-based venture capital group. Currently, Brian is the vice president of business development for the Willis Group. Brian has been an active member of Green Chimney, a pioneer animal-assisted therapy organization dedicated to helping children with emotional, behavioral and learning challenges. Brian’s first introduction to Waterkeeper Alliance was in 1995 while working for AIG Environmental, when he attended a Riverkeeper benefit at Chelsea Piers.
Bryce Perry, Trustee - Green Technologies
Bryce is currently in Brazil working in the field of sustainable technology for the agricultural, environment and energy sectors; seeking to bring substantial economic and environmental returns to a range of customers. Prior to Brazil, he ran the International Rescue Committee’s humanitarian and post-conflict interventions in the war-ravaged North Kivu Province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, overseeing a multi-million dollar programming portfolio funded by a variety of donors and covering programing areas that included Health, Education / Child Protection, Community Driven Reconstruction and Women’s Protection and Empowerment. Before returning to the humanitarian / post-conflict sector, Bryce spent six years in financial services sector most recently with Wells Fargo’s Wealth Management Group in their strategy group, focused on client profitability initiatives and corporate development. Prior to that he worked in finance at JP Morgan in New York, primarily dealing with risk mitigation of merger integration issues as well as working for BearingPoint in their financial services consulting team. Bryce’s first job after college was as a United Nations Volunteer in East Timor for a year and a half following their independence in 1999, working on civil registration, civic education and elections. A native of Western North Carolina, Bryce has lived, studied and worked on 5 continents, speaks 4 languages and holds an MSc in Development Management from the London School of Economics and a BA in English from Sewanee, The University of the South.
Joe Tomlinson, Trustee - Director of RTerra, Renewable Energy Partners
Joe has been a principal in a number of groundbreaking projects, from creating NBC’s “The Gravity Games,” to developing the RE:VOLVE and Revel Seven organic apparel brands—both recognized for delivering best-in-class environmentally friendly production techniques to the consumer market—to driving the development and commercialization of a recyclable polypropylene substrate, Joe is a visionary marketer and environmental entrepreneur. Joe is President of the Board of Trustees of The Winter School, a progressive independent prep school in Park City, Utah. He received a BA in business and marketing from U. Mass Dartmouth.
Virginia Dadey, Trustee - Director of Financial Relations, Latitude Solutions Inc.
Virginia is a New York investor-relations executive with over two decades experience in the financial markets. Ms. Dadey will lend her financial expertise in capital needs as well as monthly financial analyses and reviews. She currently serves as Director of Financial Relations for Latitude Solutions, Inc., a publicly traded water remediation company which focuses on industrial and commercial applications. Ms. Dadey's responsibilities include banking, corresponding institutional and individual investors, and public relations. Throughout her career, Ms. Dadey has worked in international institutional sales and investor relations, and over the past decade has consulted for several publicly traded technology companies. Ms. Dadey is a graduate of Purdue university with a BS degree in biochemistry and nutrition. She is currently a committee member of Save Sag Harbor.
Dominic Richardson, Trustee - Managing Director, Halcyon Southeast LLC
Dominic Richardson is a native of the United Kingdom and has spent his entire career as a well-versed financial trader and entrepreneur. Mr. Richardson began his financial career in London as a currency trader serving institutions and high net worth individuals. He currently directs private equity placement services and is the founder of Halcyon Southeast. He especially appreciates a need for a global perspective that is required when dealing with the world wide issues facing protecting water resources.
Dominic and his wife, Heather, have been active supporters of the Waterkeeper Alliance since 2008 when they attended the Deer Valley Opening Weekend fundraiser. Since then, they have taken part in the planning committee for the 2011 Deer Valley Celebrity Skifest fundraiser and look forward to future large scale fundraising efforts. They have actively donated time as well as made personal donations to the organization to serve as auction items.
Heather Richardson, Trustee - MD
Heather Richardson grew up in Augusta, GA and attended Wake Forest University before returning to the Medical College of Georgia. She completed a residency in surgery at Emory University and stayed in Atlanta where she currently practices as a specialist in the management of benign and malignant breast disease. She works in resident and student teaching and is on the Genetics and Cancer committees of Piedmont Hospital. She has lectured internationally on surgical technique. Heather and her husband, Dominic support the environmental protection efforts of the Captain Planet Foundation as well as Wine to Water to provide clean drinking water to underdeveloped regions. They have also attended to medical mission work in Moshi, Tanzania where in 2008 they brought ultrasound equipment and medical teaching as well as surgical care to the people of that region.
Yvonne Zappulla, Trustee - Managing Director, Grannus Financial
Yvonne is a seasoned Wall Street professional with over 25 years experience. She has secured funding for numerous companies large and small, counseled and provided advisory services to many public and private companies, and has established and extensive network of retail and institutional investors. Yvonne began her career in venture capital as an analyst and worked 16 years in institutional equities sales for bulge bracket firms including First Manhattan, SG Warburg, Kemper Securities, ABN-AMBRO and Friedman, Billings, Ramsey. In 2000, Yvonne joined Grannus Financial as a managing director. Grannus Financial is a high-level investor relations/advisory firm that works closely with the executive management teams of the public companies it represents. Yvonne received a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies from Dickerson College and an MBA from Tulane University, and also studied international law at the University of Heidelberg (Heidelberg, Germany). She is FINRA registered series 7, 63, and 79.
James Curleigh, Board of Directors - Global Brand Director, Levi Strauss and Co.
James Curleigh currently serves as the global brand director for Levi Strauss and Company. Previous to this position, James served as President-Strategic Development for Amer Winter & Outdoor Americas. Prior to that, he enjoyed a 16 year career with Salomon serving as President & CEO of Salomon North America from 2001-2006. James has been a long-time supporter of Waterkeeper Alliance and joined the Board in 2007. He also contributes he proven leadership and strategic vision as Chair of the Board of Snowsports Industry, Board President of Canadian American Society Oregon. Born in Virginia and citizen of the US, Canada, and the United Kingdom, James currently resides in Portland, Oregon with his wife Jacqueline and three children.
Grey Hecht, Board of Directors – Cloudburst Enterprises
Grey is a green home builder, serial board member, philanthropist, farmer and restorationist who has been lucky enough to have grown up out west in the great outdoors. Tempered by rural lifestyle and a family culture of environmental stewardship, Grey is committed to the Waterkeeper mission of water protection. Grey received a Bachelors of Science in Environmental Biology from Southern Oregon University, is owner of Cedar Green Homes, Cloudburst Enterprises, and Small Creek Farm in Oregon, and co-owner/founder of the Ola Honua Restoration Project in Maui. He is husband to Nicoya, and father of two boys, Kadin and Gracen, 14 and 11 years old. Grey enjoys ultra-running, surfing, snow sports, rivers and mountains to help keep him sane and enriched.
Terry Tamminen, Board of Directors - Founder, Santa Monica Baykeeper
From his youth in Australia to career experiences in Europe, Africa, China and across the United States, Terry has developed expertise in business, farming, education, non-profit, the environment, the arts and government. A United States Coast Guard-licensed ship captain, Terry has long been drawn to the undersea world, starting in the 1960s with a family-run tropical fish breeding business in Australia and continuing with studies on conch depletion in the Bahamas, manatee populations in Florida coastal waters and mariculture in the Gulf States with Texas A&M University. On land, Terry managed the largest sheep ranch east of the Mississippi, assisting the University of Minnesota in developing new methods of livestock disease control. Terry also managed a multi-million dollar real estate company, owned a successful recreational services business and assisted the West African nation of Nigeria with the creation of their first solid waste recycling program. In 1993, Terry founded the Santa Monica Baykeeper and co-founded additional Waterkeeper programs in five California watersheds. He later served as the Executive Director of the Environment Now Foundation in Santa Monica, CA and co-founded the Frank G. Wells Environmental Law Clinic at the School of Law, University of California Los Angeles.
Waterkeeper Alliance was founded in 1999 by environmental attorney and activist Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., and several veteran Waterkeeper Organizations, Waterkeeper Alliance is a global movement of on-the-water advocates who patrol and protect over 100,000 miles of rivers, streams and coastlines in North and South America, Europe, Australia, Asia and Africa.
