On Friday, the ClimateSilence.org campaign, led by Forecast the Facts and Friends of the Earth Action, released a new political advertisement called "Romney vs. Sandy,” which contrasts Mitt Romney’s mockery of the threat of climate change at the Republican National Convention with the destructive power of Superstorm Sandy. The ad is running in Ohio (Columbus area) and Virginia (Loudon, Franklin, Prince William Counties), and has been viewed online more than 175,000 times.
Today, grassroots activists are chipping in to expand the ad buy. Already more than $7,000 in contributions have come in from 241 donors via the crowd-funding site LoudSauce.
“It’s heartening to see concerned citizens contribute their hard-earned dollars to make sure Americans remember how tragically unfunny it was for Mitt Romney to make climate change a laugh line at this year’s Republican convention,” said Daniel Souweine, campaign director for Forecast the Facts. "Americans across the East Coast are still reeling from the destruction of a true Frankenstorm, which was exacerbated by warmed and risen seas, and is exactly the kind of extreme, unprecedented weather scientists have long predicted would come with global warming. Anyone who mocks climate change is mocking the lost lives, dislocation, and billions of dollars of damage wrought by Sandy."
