Credit Card Fraud At Best Buy Checked By Paramus Police
On Saturday 11/17/2012 at approximately 9pm, Paramus Officers Daniel DeRienzo and Andrew Cofone responded to Best Buy at the Fashion Center in reference to the use of a fraudulent credit card. Upon arrival, the officers were flagged down in the lot by store personnel, who identified a man leaving with an Apple I pad® that was purchased with a fraudulent credit card.
The suspect, identified as 53 year old Humberto Gonzalez of Paterson, was escorted back into the store by the Paramus Police Officers. A check by the officers with the credit company revealed that the card was fraudulent. Additionally, store personnel reported that Mr. Gonzalez had passed the card off to a female companion, later identified as 51 year old Carmen Vasquez of Paterson, who attempted to use it to purchase another Apple I pad®. Both parties were placed under arrest and transported to Paramus Police Headquarters. Through further investigation it was revealed that the suspects were in possession of a total of seven fraudulent credit cards. Complaints were signed against both suspects for fraudulent use of credit cards and wrongful impersonation. Ms. Vasquez was later released pending court appearance while Mr. Gonzalez was lodged in the Bergen County Jail in lieu of $10,000.00 bail pending court appearance.
