New pledge options encourages student education and entrepreneurship, Six days left on Kickstarter
- Flomio, a Techstars Cloud company, announces two new pledge options aimed at students on their FloJack Kickstarter campaign. The Flomio team launched the “Write the Future” initiative to encourage entrepreneurship, NFC education and creativity among young folks. For $39, a student can receive a FloJack, SDK, and 5 Zapps. For $89, a student can receive a FloCase, SDK, and 10 Zapps.
“We were inspired to develop these levels after speaking with a 13-year-old developer who reached out to us,” says John Bullard of Flomio. “We have been working together to build an NFC demo app for iOS. At that point, I realized that there is great potential for other students to develop their own apps with our NFC technology so we wanted to make that option affordable.”
FloJack is a tiny dongle that easily inserts into the 3.5mm port of the iOS device which then enables NFC. The FloCase is a TouchTip slim case for the iPhone packed with NFC technology. NFC is similar to Bluetooth except it uses touch to create connections between your phone and the world. Essentially, it is a wireless conversation between two closely held devices, and it has the potential to completely change the way we integrate technology in our everyday lives.
With Flomio’s NFC Actions App, users can read or write an NFC tag or one of Flomio’s ZAPPs to create a new experience. When an NFC device comes close enough to a tag, a chip inside sends a stored message. This little message then tells your phone to do something. For instance, the Zapps can open apps, play music, or launch videos. Users can even program the tags to give a friend directions, schedule a meeting or send reminders- just to name a few.
The “Write the Future” reward levels are only available to students so these backers must have an “.edu” email address to pledge.
