Thanksgiving dinner at West Brook Thus read the invitation to an annual event held by the West Brook Middle School. Every year, they invite the seniors to partake of beautiful music performed by the students and then given a delicious turkey dinner. The key to enjoying the dinner is to immediately accept the offers of the young students swarming around the tables to make sure that each diner is taken care of. They circulate in swarms to offer beverages first and then to deliver the meal. They are so precious that it is difficult to decline their offers.
Thanksgiving dinner at West Brook Principal Carla Alvarez greeted the seniors and gave them welcome. She then turned the microphone over to one of the teachers who had a string band play some offerings. After that came the choir and then the brass orchestra. Listening to the presentations, one admires the skills that these teachers have imbued in their charges. You get the feeling that these are professionals, not middle school students.
There was a big contingent from the Paramus Senior Center as well as residents of the Walter Behnke Senior Housing Complex. Some of the diners recognized were: retired Paramus Police Sergeant Al Gunderson who was busy chatting with some of the youngsters, Dom Barbera and Bernie Nickels. Visiting the group was newly re-elected Board Of Education member Bernadette McCausland. Vice -Principal Larry Callenda was busy rushing around helping the students where needed.
