Accusoft Releases ThinPic for iOS™ to Store and Transfer Up to 3x More High-Resolution Photos

Accusoft, the leading provider of document, content and imaging solutions, announces the release of ThinPic, a simple and easy-to-use app that reduces photo file sizes on an iOS mobile device without compromising resolution or image quality.

When a user opens the ThinPic app and selects a photo or album of photos stored on their iPhone® or iPad®, ThinPic will create a new album and then reduce the photo file size up to 70% of its original size. Once the photo is saved it will retain its image quality and resolution. Using ThinPic, consumers can store up to three times as many high-resolution photos on their device or cloud storage services. Users can also save on data transfer rates by reducing the file size of their photos prior to sharing them with friends and family through email and social media.

"iPhone and iPad users will be able to store three times more high-resolution photos on their devices and cloud services and then share those photos up to three times faster using the ThinPic app." said Steve Wilson, Director of Native Core Imaging for Accusoft. "The cool thing about our method for reducing photo file sizes is that in most cases we can maintain the original resolution of the image while achieving a smaller image size than the device’s built-in file reduction achieves by cutting the resolution in half."

For example, the panorama mode in the iPhone 5 can capture a 17 MB image. When that photo is emailed from the iPhone the user is prompted to reduce the message size by scaling the image to Small, Medium, Large or Actual Size for faster transmission. The Actual Size setting scales the image to half of its original resolution to generate a file size of approximately 5.5MB. ThinPic will reduce the same image to around 4.4MB, while maintaining the original resolution.

Users can download ThinPic for free from the iTunes® app store and try it out on up to three photos per day. An in-app purchase of $1.99 removes the three photos per day limit.
