GreatNonprofits Unveils 2012 Top-Rated List of Nonprofits Across the Country
Redwood Shores, Calif. – More than $100 billion dollars is expected to be donated to charities this December. To help donors and volunteers find worthy charities to support this season of giving, GreatNonprofits has just released the 2012 Top-Rated Nonprofits List.
The Top-Rated Nonprofit Awards is the charity world’s equivalent of the ‘People’s Choice Awards’. Over 38,000 reviews were submitted by volunteers, program participants, and donors for the awards. The complete list of 1300 Top-Rated charities can be found at http://greatnonprofits.org/awards/browse .
“We are heading into the season of giving back – when donors and volunteers are looking to support nonprofits,” said Perla Ni, CEO of GreatNonprofits. “This 2012 Top-Rated Nonprofit List helps people easily find terrific charities, national or local, who are making a difference.”
Donors and volunteers can easily choose among causes that they are interested in – such as animal shelters, arts, or education. They can easily browse by their city and discover local nonprofits. They can see photos and read the vivid reviews by people who have direct experience with the nonprofit.
Experiences like this one for Correctional Association of New York: “When I came home from prison eight years ago things looked grim. I enrolled in an Advocacy Leadership Program sponsored by the Correctional Association’s Women in Prison Project, "RECONNECT" and I have been soaring ever since! Today I am a Certified Alcohol Substance Abuse Counselor and I attend college pursuing a degree in Social Work. Without the sincere support I received and still receive at the CA I don't know where I would have ended up!
Or this one from Students Rising Above in San Francisco: “Students Rising Above has been the best thing that has ever happened to me. Despite struggling throughout my life to find stability, my mentors and friends from SRA have been just that. I know they are always an email, text, or phone call away. They have helped me through college tremendously, both physically and mentally, and I couldn't imagine where I could possibly be today without them.”
Craig Newmark, a philanthropist and founder of Craiglist said, "GreatNonprofits is a great service for people interested in inspiring others to donate and volunteer at their favorite nonprofits. Folks can rate charities and share their firsthand experience with the organization. Now people can help each other discover nonprofits doing good work in their town."
