When Hurricane Sandy barreled through New York and New Jersey, the tragedy became very real, very quickly for employees of Long Island-based Gamma Labs, the company behind G Fuel, the energy drink created for those who play video games in the virtual world.
Though the business was fine, the hurricane hit home for many of its employees whose houses were destroyed or damaged. Some families were left without electricity for weeks.
Being without power for so long has given way to a sense of empowerment at Gamma Labs. The company launched a community auction page on eBay to collect and auction items in hopes of raising money for Hurricane Sandy charities.
Long Island-based Gamma Labs’ Hurricane Sandy Relief Charity Auction so far include a 2012-2013 Houston Texans signed football and a 2012-2013 Detroit Lions signed football, each with a starting bid of $400.
More items are to be added soon and additions will continue throughout the course of the auction, which will run through the end of February.
Those who wish to donate without participating in the auctions can do so as well via their online PayPal account.
“Hurricane Sandy has affected thousands of people across the entire East coast, including a few members of the Gamma Labs family,” said Clifford Morgan, Chief Executive Officer of Gamma Labs. “Now is the time to give back and help people get their lives back to normal. Gamma Labs is determined to do its part, by raising money through an exciting donation effort and we thank everyone who has helped organize this cause.”
The auction page also includes a powerful video created by the energy drink company that documents the news coverage of the storm and the true life trials of some of Gamma Labs’ employees affected by the storm.

“I lost everything. I’ve been living out of suitcase for the last month and a half,” said Louis Trumpatori, Logistics Manager for Gamma Labs.
While the storm may have caused billions of dollars in damages, it has left the spirit of New York, and those who call it home, bruised, but intact.
“This is just a bump in the road and we’re going to bounce back because this is New York, the greatest city in the world,” said Trumpatori.
