Outdoor Technology, cutting-edge creators of action lifestyle audio accessories, break the mold again with the introduction of the Armadillo during the Consumer Electronics Show. A larger version of its predecessor, the Turtle Shell®, the Armadillo is a rugged shelled boombox that will allow you to dig into the dirt and experience the outdoor terrain with your favorite tunes via AirPlay or Bluetooth. Ideal for camping and for the home, the Armadillo is shockproof, waterproof, allows for daisy chaining and provides a USB port for charging other devices. Also debuting at CES is the new generation of the Turtle Shell® boom box. The new version features Bluetooth 4.0 and other design enhancements including IPX6 waterproof standard certification and APT-X codex enhanced audio for a more complete listening experience.
"We are stoked to introduce the Armadillo after the success of the Turtle Shell. The big bro of the Turtle Shell, the Armadillo is built for power, bass, serious hi-fi sound, and bulletproof durability,” said Caro Krissman, Co-Founder and CEO. “We are also pleased to announce enhancements to the Turtle Shell including the addition of apt-X, some cool 4.0 features and IPX6 certification, the highest waterproof standard for non-submersible products."
Armadillo: Bigger. Better
The Armadillo fuses the same highly modern design of the Turtle Shell but doubles the size and sound with daisy chain functionality that allows you to play two Armadillos together for the ultimate sound experience. The Armadillo also features Bluetooth connectivity and AirPlay for iOS users that wish to have a stylish wireless speaker that connects flawlessly to their device and an integrated USB port for powering other devices.
Turtle Shell Goes Blue
The Turtle Shell offers a uniquely rugged design shaped like a turtle shell with an array of color offerings to express your style. The fully equipped new Hi Fi version will include Bluetooth 4.0 low-energy technology and easy-to-use integrated controls for quick control of tracks, volume and calls with just a touch of a button. The new Turtle is made to fit your active lifestyle with its new IP6X dust and waterproof standard and bike mount capability. In addition, it features the Turtle Claw, the first ever camera threading speaker mount allowing it to attach to any standard camera accessory. Accessories are available but sold separately.
The crisp deep bass and hi-fi sound from the Turtle Shell and Armadillo make them the ideal companion for music, movies games and even calls. They are also party-friendly with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that will last up to 10 hours. Both are also equipped with a built-in microphone making them ideal for speakerphone functionality.
The new Turtle Shell will be available in early 2013 for $149.95 while the Armadillo will be available later in 2013.
About Outdoor Technology:
The fundamental dilemma: blending a modern lifestyle in the age of mobility with the drive to be outdoors. Our development of Wireless Audio has been shaped by this constant push and pull, to stay connected but not tethered. Mobile devices have reshaped how we live, but standing alone, they merely scratch the surface on enhancing our lifestyle. A mobile device that requires a cord to play music and have a conversation is like a brain using only portion of its potential, cut the cord to realize a higher consciousness. Outdoor Tech is about escape; breaking away from the city, routine, and the mundane. Our pulse beats design, style and creation. We don’t define ourselves by the space that confines us, but we do draw from it. Our mission is to create stuff you probably want, that enhance experiences with the outdoors, with technology, and within.
